Darrel
Teter
d. Sep 12, 2023
Darrel Teter, at the age of 85, had his final adventure on September 12th, 2023, surrounded by his unwavering wife, Sharon, and their loving family, serenaded by the dulcet tones of John Denver. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Darrel embarked on a life-changing journey in 1963 when he made Colorado his home sweet home while pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Denver.
Now, Darrel may have worn cowboy boots and hats while navigating the urban jungle, but that only added to his unique charm. He was a man of many talents – a doctor turned cowboy, a loving husband, doting father, playful grandfather, proud great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. Yet, what set him apart was his remarkable dedication and compassion as a distinguished Speech Pathologist & Audiologist, especially when it came to helping children.
His "urban cowboy" style, complete with boots and hats, was as iconic as his generosity, which had no boundaries. When it came to fishing, well, let's just say he could catch fish in a bathtub. And his wildlife-spotting skills? Let's just say he could find a needle in a haystack - or a deer in a forest!
Darrel and Sharon were true adventurers at heart, gallivanting across Europe, South Africa, and even reaching the lofty heights of Kathmandu, Nepal, where Darrel had a bold encounter with a part of Mount Everest. He spun tales of their global escapades, hunting extravaganzas, and fishing sagas with such flair that it was almost like you were there with him.
Darrel had a magnetic personality that transcended borders and connected with folks from all corners of the globe. In 2010, after many hunting and fly-fishing adventures in the Steamboat Valley Darrel and Sharon decided to make Routt County, Colorado, their permanent home. It was a place he had always held dear in his heart.
With his passing a void now resides in the lives of his beloved wife, Sharon, and their cherished children: Kellie Teter, Traci Jones, Kimberly Teter, and Michael Lipsett. The sons-in-law, John Connell, Kerry Jackson, and Robert Buckler, were like the posse that rode by his side. And his grandchildren and their partners – Aster Teter & Dena Seitz, Lyndsay Jones Burrage & Desmond Burrage, Brandi Jones & Nick Toof, Deziree Lipsett, and Zach Jones – were his partners in crime. His great-grandchildren, Aubrianna, Diamond, and Brynleigh, are the next generation to carry forward his legacy. His sister Diane O'Dell and (Lane), nephew Bradley and niece Julie of Omaha, Nebraska.
To honor Darrel's memory, the family plans to have an intimate and heartfelt celebration of his life later this year.
