Dolores "Del"
Rapalee
d. Jun 20, 2016
Dolores (Del) left this world June 20th, 2016, the beautiful day of the summer solstice and the full Strawberry Moon. She leaves behind her son, Richard, daughter, Marilyn (Dr. Mark) McCaulley, grandsons Colin (Anna) McCaulley and Evan McCaulley.
Dolores was born in Elgin, IL where she met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Rapalee. Within months, she bid him goodbye when Ken was provided with his "invitation" to join the Army and serve for 5 years in WWII.
She and Ken loved music and ballroom dancing, but mostly they shared their passion for travel in the U.S. and abroad. They presented travelogues to many camera clubs and libraries. Dolores provided the narration, and Ken presented award-winning photographic documentation of their travels.
Dolores volunteered in many community and non-profit organizations, including the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where she introduced Marilyn to the field of Occupational Therapy. Dolores enthusiastically participated in groups that explored the arts. She enjoyed reading, bridge, horse races, concerts, and baseball games. Hardly ever seen without heels and lipstick, this elegant lady loved nice restaurants and hotels and High Tea. She loved animals.
There were many summers with children and grandchildren in Steamboat Springs. "Grandma's pool" was the place to be. In February 2015 after Ken's death, Dolores moved to Casey's Pond where she met new friends and loved the caring staff. She was with family often, including Poudre , the McCaulley dog. She will be missed immensely, and Poudre will also miss her constant frisbee throwing and morning toast. The family was together in her new home for many dinners, happy hours, holidays and events. Visiting the Botanic Park and attending concerts there and at Strings highlighted summer.
There will be a Memorial service at the United Methodist Church on July 19 th at 2 pm, followed by a reception at Casey's Pond. Please join us in honoring and celebrating this incredible woman.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Horizons Specialized Services, PO.774867 or the Routt County Humane Society P.O. 772080, both in Steamboat Springs, CO 80477, or any charity of your choice. Please note memorial for Dolores Rapalee.
