Born in: Mahomet, Illinois
Resided in: Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Douglas Wayne Cook, 75, of Steamboat Springs, passed away on August 26, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. Son of the late Nadine and Archie Cook and brother of the late Phil Cook of Mahomet, Illinois, Doug is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janice (Long) Cook, and his children Dennis Cook (Hilary Cook) and Amy Cook Olson (Dr. Jeffrey Olson), along with his beloved grandchildren Jake, Luke & Avery Olson of Steamboat Springs and Elspeth Felthubbard and Alissa Cook of East Sandwich, MA.
Doug's greatest love was his wife Jan and his family. He was a teacher and a coach serving 45 years in education, most of which was at Lake Zurich High School in Illinois, where during his tenure he was the Head Varsity Coach for both basketball and football. Doug was a dedicated coach and served as a mentor to his students, fellow coaches and athletes alike. As a "people person" Doug could strike up a conversation with anyone and find something in common. Doug had many friends from all walks of his life and enjoyed lifelong friendships with coaches and his athletes. Doug was a dedicated fan of Chicago sports including the Bears and White Sox. He loved fishing, sports, playing pool, jeep rides, anything outdoors, his chocolate lab Coco and most of all—spending time with his family.
