Edward (Ted) Swain, 84, of Steamboat Springs died peacefully on March 2nd after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

Ted was born on November 4, 1935, in Windham, Connecticut. He graduated from Williams College in 1957 where he received a B.A. in Economics, Phi Beta Kappa and LLB from Harvard Law School. Ted achieved the rank of LT. in the US Navy where he served on the carrier USS Ranger as part of the heavy attack squadron 6. He married Sue Swain in 1976, where they lived on Bainbridge Island, Washington for 26 years before moving to Steamboat in 2002.

Ted practiced law for 22 years as General Counsel of Boise Cascade's Engineering and Construction Group and a partner in the Law firm of Ferguson and Burdell in Seattle. He ended his career as President and Chief Executive Officer of PT Holdings and Port Townsend Paper Corp.

Ted carried on his passion for flying by serving for 15 years as a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field in Seattle.

Growing up with his younger brother in Connecticut, Ted loved playing pond hockey and sledding in the winters, fishing and swimming at their cabin on the lake in the summers.

Ted was a loving husband to Sue and caring father of his 5 children. His legacy lives on through his 4 grandchildren. He launched off aircraft carriers, excelled in collegiate hockey, travelled through Europe for ski adventures, guided major corporations in international affairs and swam with his children after work off his dock in Manzanita Bay, Bainbridge Island. He was known for his loyalty to friends, his quick wit, his wisdom and his generous spirit.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington or the Yampa Valley Parkinson Support Network.
