Obituary

Harmon (Buck) Buckland, 91 passed away on July 25, 2024.  He was born on March 9, 1933, in Hinton, West Virginia, the son of George and Trecie (Grimmett) Buckland. Buck Graduated from Hinton High School, Class of 1951.  Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 4 years before being honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Buck went on to have a distinguished career with the National Security Agency with postings in Vietnam, during that conflict, as well as in West Germany at the end of the Cold War before assuming duties back in the USA, specifically at Fort Meade in Maryland and Buckley Air National Guard Base in Colorado, before retiring in Steamboat Springs.  While working for the National Security Agency in Maryland, he met and later married Christine Shiver.  They celebrated 67 years of marriage in February.  Buck was a loyal member of the VFW Post No. 4264 of Routt County and participated in their activities until unable to do so.  In addition to his parents, Buck was predeceased by his eldest son, Mark.  Surviving, in addition to his wife, Christine (Shiver) Buckland, are his sons, Douglas Buckland of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and John Buckland of Olathe, Colorado.  The burial service for Buck will be held at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery at 9:00 am on Friday, August 2, 2024. Services under the direction of the Yampa Valley Funeral Home.
