Ian A.
Duncan
Nov 3, 1933 — Jan 1, 2024
Ian was born on a London-bound train in 1933. Seven years later, he was bundled onto a ship (along with many other British children) and sent to the US, away from the bombs of the Luftwaffe. He was adopted into the Wheeler family and grew up in Massachusetts. He attended Dartmouth and Colorado College. He worked as a ski patroller at Mad River Glen and Winter Park, spent most of his career in the sailboat industry, and worked for 10 years as a general contractor after moving to Steamboat Springs in the mid-1990s. He lived in the Yampa Valley for 30 years and loved this silly place – he skied until he was 89. His wife Judy, daughter Ashley, son-in-law Tim, grandson Taylor, and niece Amy live in the Rocky Mountains. His daughter Heather, son-in-law Alex, granddaughter Daisy, sister-in-law Mercy, niece Emily, and brother-in-law Terry live in Massachusetts. His sister-in-law Susan and niece Polly live in California, and his cousin George lives in Wisconsin. We all loved Ian and will miss his delightful irascibility and irrepressible Scottishness. If you're moved to do something in his memory, thank you! Please consider a donation to the Yampa Valley Medical Center (they were truly amazing) or the Harwich Conservation Trust out on Cape Cod.
