James Edward Cartwright, II, was born in Denver to Jean Fontius Cartwright and John Biles Cartwright. His sister was Joan Cartwright, Rotole. He is survived by several cousins, Kay Fontius Wieder (George) of Parker, CO, Harry Edwin Fontius of Pueblo, CO, Marshall Graham Fontius of Parker, CA, Diane Cartwright of Tijeras, NM. He is also survived by a nephew Philip Rotole of Denver, CO.
He graduated from Randall Moore School in Denver, attended Menlo Junior College in Menlo Park, California and graduated from Denver University with a BSBA degree. He completed a four-year online Education for Ministry certificate program at the School of Theology, University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee.
He spent his business career working for Cartwright Realty Company in Denver and Cartwright Realty Company and Cartwright International Realty - Sotheby International Realty in Santa Fe. In Denver, he was president of the following organizations. U S Jaycees (Denver Chapter), Randall Moore School of Denver and March of Dimes (Denver Chapter). He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Colorado State House of Representatives District 10.
In Santa Fe, he was President and National Volunteer Advisor of the March of Dimes (New Mexico State Chapter). He also served as a board member of the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian, the Old Santa Fe Association, Historic Santa Fe Association and Sons of the American Revolution (Santa Fe Chapter). He was a Bishop Committee member and treasurer of Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Santa Fe.
In Fraser, he was president of the Meadow Ridge Lodges Homeowners Association and a board member of the Grand County Council on Aging, Secretary of the Rural Transportation Coordinating Council, Member of the Episcopal Church of St John the Baptist in Granby and a member of the Rector Search Committee and members of the Congregation Discernment Committee for Ordination of a Priest and a Deacon.
In Kremmling he lived at Cliffview Assisted Living and attended Trinity Episcopal Church. In Steamboat Springs, he was a volunteer with Northwest Colorado Health Hospice and attended St Paul Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be held Friday September 8, 2017, 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 846 Oak Street, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487, followed by a light reception. Interment will be at 3:00 PM at Kremmling Riverside Cemetery, 1429-1635 Eagle Avenue, Kremmling, CO 80459.
