Steamboat lost long time local, James Leonard Curd, 6:23am, May 12, 2020. He passed away at age 68, at his home after a 3-year battle with cancer. The weeks preceding his close family was able to be with him and share their love. Born January 8, 1952, in Rockford Illinois to Alan and Mary (Stuart) Curd, he was a loving father to his daughters, Nicole and Kimberly Curd, thrill to be Grandfather to Royce Fell, survived by former spouse Deb Curd-Kinnecom, sister, Mary "Maggie" Curd and brother, Richard Curd.
Jim graduated with a BA in political science, moved to Steamboat Springs with his family in 1992 and established his property management company, Emerald Mountain Properties in 1995. An avid fisherman, he became a proponent of protecting the river. He joined the board of the Yampa Valley Flyfishers in 1995, serving in many officer positions including president. He was on the Yampa Valley Stream Improvement Charitable Trust (YVSCIT) in 2001 and served as Vice President for the last 10 years. He firmly believed, 'the river is our legacy' and his motto was "We need to raise the money, since the fish can't".
A celebration of life will be this summer. Memorials can be made in his honor to YVSCIT, http://www.yvsict.org/ This kind heart, fierce mind, brave soul is now fishing the rivers of heaven with his devoted companion, Gracie Lou by his side.
