Obituary

Jane Ayers Taylor, 73, of Oak Creek, CO died peacefully after a long illness on August 18, 2026, at Casey’s Pond where she had been in hospice for her last 4 months. Her lifelong friend Cargo Rodeman cared for her the prior 4 months in her home.

Born September 13, 1952, she grew up in Fairfield, CT, attended Kathleen Laycock Country Day School, House of the Pines in Norton, MA and Colorado State University in Ft Collins, CO. After college she moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where she lived in the area for the last 50 years.

Jane was loved by many. She lived frugally, spending her money on others. When someone was in need, Jane instinctively knew and met their need, whether it was a major appliance or something small to cheer a friend. She was an avid skier. She loved to travel visiting Mexico, Africa, Bali, Australia, Africa, Hawaii and locations in the U.S. She was self-employed as a massage and colonic therapist, sold water purification systems, did artful faux finishing and provided end of life care. Jane put her heart and soul into every occupation. She planted trees on Gore pass and later traveled to Standing Rock with food, blankets and warm clothing to assist the indigenous water protectors. She was godmother to many children, though she had none of her own. Jane showered them with gifts of learning and of whimsy. Nothing brought her more happiness than the joy she brought others. Jane’s endless energy, thoughtfulness and generosity made each person she came into contact with feel loved. Those who were blessed to know her, know she was one of a kind.

She is survived by her brothers, Jim (and wife Debbie Gilbert), Ray and Thorne, nephews Thatcher, Jared, Gavin and David and by her many Connecticut and Colorado friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Colorado Restaurant in Oak Creek on September 13th, which would have been her 74th birthday.
