Obituary

Jonathan Stauffer (48) of Steamboat Springs departed this life December 23, 2016.  He is survived by his wife Toby Ieuter Stauffer and dog Smokey, as well as family members in his native Virginia, including Rita King, Billy and Robynne King, Mary Brown, the Nolasco family and father John Stauffer of Idaho.  Jonathan's beloved mother, Trudy King, passed away in his youth.

Jonathan was a proud alumni of Frank Cox High School and Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.  His passion for the outdoors was evident throughout his life.  After completing his degree in Environmental Science and Hydrology at Virginia Tech, he embarked on a career in environmental stream and wetland restoration for over 20 years.  His work brought him West, initially to California's Stanislaus National Forest and eventually to Wyoming and Colorado where he has spent the majority of the past 20 years.  Jonathan pursued his dream, founding his own company, Eco Hydro ( https://www.ecohydro.us/ ) in 2008.

His career resulted in strong friendships and he met his wife Toby, a Boulder native, while working in stream restoration.  Jonathan and Toby were married in 2007 and have followed their careers to Cheyenne, Fort Collins and eventually Steamboat Springs in 2012.

Jonathan lived each day to make the world a better place.  He was a devoted member of many local organizations, including Friends of the Yampa (Board Member), Wildlands Restoration Volunteers (Technical Advisor), the Colorado Riparian Association (Life Member), the Society of Wetland Scientists (Life Member) and Trout Unlimited - Yampa Valley Fly Casters (Member).

Jonathan's hearty laugh, his willingness to lend a hand and his passion for the outdoors will be missed, but not forgotten.  Memorial services to honor his life will be held on January 28 th in Steamboat Springs and April 1 st in Virginia Beach.  Details for each service are noted below:
