Kit was born in Fayetteville, NC.  In 2009, he moved from NC to make his home in Oak Creek, CO. On Friday, March 11,2022, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.

He proudly embraced his Mohawk Indian heritage and his service in the U.S. Army.  His other occupations included working with race horses and CDL truck driver.

Kit is survived by his mother, Arla Pies, son, Joseph Raymond Johnson, daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn and granddaughter Amaya Eris Johnson. Four brothers, Charles Matthews II, Randy Matthews, Mitchell R. Matthews, Anthony R Matthews, sister-in-law, Valerie Holub and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the Jan Bishop Cancer Center of Steamboat Springs, CO and to the community of Oak Creek, CO for all the care and support during Kit's illness and passing.
