Margaret Subr our Super Mom

Margaret Subr—known to her family as Super Mom—known to her friends Maggie—lived a life defined by love, faith, service, and steady determination. To those closest to her, she was the heart of the family: the one who kept everyone connected, encouraged, and moving forward with purpose. She built a home wherever life took her, and she made sure her children always knew they were loved, supported, and capable of great things.

Maggie was born in Highland Park, Michigan, and grew up on Hubbard Road in Livonia Michigan, sixth of eight siblings in a busy, spirited household. She loved the simple joys of childhood and carried that warmth throughout her life. In the summertime, she couldn't get enough of swimming—many weekends were spent in the water, laughing and making memories. Winters brought a different kind of joy: sledding, bundled up, embracing Michigan snow days with the same enthusiasm she brought to everything.

Maggie attended Michigan State University, earning her degree in education and followed her calling to teach. She began her career working with elementary students, and for a time pursued her love of creativity and learning—teaching and exploring art education as part of her path. With both courage and ambition, she later applied for government teaching and accepted the opportunity that would change her life: an assignment with the Department of Defense schools at Hahn Air Force Base in Germany.

Maggie's years in Germany became one of the most important chapters of her story. She arrived there to teach in Department of Defense schools, serving the children of military families—work she took seriously and did with deep compassion. It was at Hahn Air Force Base that she met Bob—the family's Super Dad. As she remembered it, he was "the handsome officer in a flight suit," and the introduction came through a mutual friend, Betty. From that meeting, a love story began—one rooted in partnership, shared adventure, and a commitment to building a life together.

After Germany, Maggie and Bob returned to the United States and began building their family. Over the years, they welcomed their children—Super Baby Girl Joanna, Super Rob, and Super Jon and Maggie poured her energy into making sure her home was steady, loving, and full of faith. Their family's journey included meaningful years in places such as Tucson, Montana, Colorado Springs, and eventually Steamboat Springs, where they built a lasting community.

Maggie brought faith into the center of family life. She was active in church and served by teaching CCD, supporting her parish, and making sure her children were involved as they grew up to providing faith to could carry them through anything. In Steamboat Springs, she became a devoted member of Holy Name Catholic Church, where her presence, service, and care for others reflected the values she lived every day.

Maggie had a gift for keeping the family moving forward. Through each change and each chapter, she made sure her family had a plan to support themselves—always thinking ahead, encouraging growth, and reminding her children that they could meet life with strength and confidence.

The legacy Maggie leaves her children—and everyone fortunate enough to know her—is a legacy of:

·      Faith that anchored the family

·      Love that showed up in everyday ways

·      Service to others through teaching and church

·      Perseverance through change and transitions

·      A steady belief in her children and their future

Maggie will be deeply missed. She is survived by her son Rob (Super Rob) and his wife, Theresa, and their children Emily, Megan, and Jared; her son Jonathon (Super Jon) and his wife, Kelly, and their children Daisy and Olive; her grandson, Curtis Bowser, son of her late daughter Joanna (Super Baby Girl Joanna); her brother George Summermann, her sister Jenny Chalmers, her brother Dan Summermann; and many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Interment will be held at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church after the procession.
