Mary V.
Orr
Nov 7, 1947 — Jul 22, 2020
Mary "Molly" Villiers Orr of Steamboat Springs, age 72, passed away on July 22, 2020 after a long bout with pancreatic cancer.
Molly grew up in West Islip, NY. She received a BA from NYU where she studied English, history and theology. She moved to Vermont with her husband Paul Schwindt, "door #1" as Molly would say, where they had two children, Toby and Eliza. Over the 20+ years she resided in Vermont she was involved in community theaters and worked in the real estate business.
In 1989 Molly moved to Steamboat with her "door #2" husband Owen Cox. She really did not want to leave Vermont and insisted on bringing everything with her (including her goats, sheep, dog, sailboat, canoe, etc.). Molly quickly came to love Steamboat and Steamboat loved Molly. Initially she worked at the Bud Werner Memorial Library, and became very involved in the community. She was smart, witty, caring and adventurous. She loved music and sang in the Messiah for many years. She traveled the world, instantly making friends and learning new languages along the way.
Molly has many friends who are so sorry she left the party too early. Once you met her, you were a friend for life. Her home was open to all. She was very active in bridge groups, book club, a Board Member of Opera Steamboat, volunteer & fundraiser extraordinaire to many. She loved tennis, pickleball, golf, skiing, hiking, cooking, gardening- she enjoyed it all!
Molly adored her children and grandchildren: Daughter Eliza Clayton, son-in-law Noah, their children Oliver and Maya of Whitefish, MT and her son Toby Schwindt, girlfriend Sue, and his children Hunter and Taylor of Lake Tahoe, CA.
She is also survived by her older brothers Nick Orr of Las Cruces, NM and Stephen (Jane) Orr of Loudonville, NY , her numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her former husband Owen Cox, and his children (whom she loved like her own) Catherine Rollhaus and family of Denver and David Cox and family of Lausanne, Switzerland.
Her parents Louis and Libby Orr of West Islip, NY predeceased her, as did her first husband Paul.
Molly had passionately wanted to vote in November's election. Please honor her by voting, as she would have.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
