Mavis Christine
Shiver Buckland
Feb 17, 1937 — Mar 13, 2025
Mavis [known throughout her life as Christine] was born on February 17th, 1937, in Pensacola, Florida. She came from a large family, and had seven brothers and sisters. At some point, the Shiver family moved to Opp, Alabama where Christine grew to adulthood.
Graduating at the top of her high school class in 1955, she took a job with the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. where she met her future husband, Harmon Oakley Buckland.
In 1957, they were married and shortly after Mark Lamont Buckland was born on March 18th, 1959. Soonthereafter, their second son, Douglas Owen Buckland was born on May 17th, 1960. Feeling the need to have a daughter, they tried once more, but alas, had their final son, John Stuart Buckland on August 28, 1964.
Christine worked for the Department of Justice, then after a span of time spent raising her children, she returned to work. She attended Presbyterian Medical Nursing School in Denver, Colorado graduating in 1974 with a degree as a Registered Nurse, a job she was devoted to for the remainder of her life. During the late 1970s, she returned to working for the government and was present for the Invasion of Panama during Noriega.
Christine was devoted to her three sons, and during the last fifteen years felt strongly enough about Gary Wall to move to adopt him. She considered Gary as much of a son, as her own three children.
Gary was with Christine when she passed away on March 13, 2025. She passed peacefully with the knowledge that she was fully and completely loved by her family.
She joins her husband, her son Mark, and her parents in heaven. She is survived by her sons, John and Doug, her other "son" Gary, and her cat, Sammy, as well as many other friends and family.
Christine will be remembered for the deep love and gentle kindness of her spirit, and the memories she gave others will be cherished in the hearts of those who had the delight of knowing her. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Harmon at Steamboat Springs, Colorado cemetery during the ceremony on March 18th at 11:00 am. A private viewing will be at the Yampa Valley Funeral Home on Monday the 17th.
