Michael Joseph
Holloran
Jun 12, 1944 — Mar 31, 2025
Michael (Mike) Holloran, a pillar in the Steamboat Springs community, passed away peacefully on his beloved ranch south of Steamboat on March 31st surrounded by the love of his 5 children.
Mike was born June 12, 1944 in Washington D.C. to Betty and James Holloran. He was an accomplished athlete in his early years, graduating from Gonzaga High School and going on to George Washington University as a two-sport athlete; he was inducted into GW's hall of fame in 1987. Mike stayed on at GW to get his law degree in 1969 and set out for Colorado in 1970. He worked in Denver for a couple of years before moving up to Steamboat in 1972 where he began his law practice which spanned over 50 years. Mike helped innumerable people in the community throughout his career, as well as being instrumental in the success of the school district, Bud Werner Memorial Library and Old Town Hot Springs.
Mike met his wife Suzy on a blind date in town, which led to a 50-year adventure together. After getting married in Georgetown, CO, he adopted Matt, Katie, and Myke, Suzy's children from a previous marriage, as his own. Two additional children, Greg and Becky, came along shortly thereafter to round out a spirited and fun-loving household. Mike took great pride in his family, sharing his pioneering and hard-working spirit with his 5 children and 10 grandchildren.
Mike had an adventurous streak, and bought part of the old Werner place on the south side of Steamboat with Suzy to try their hands at ranching. The ranch, where they raised their children and lived the rest of their lives, was a labor of love. Mike became an accomplished horseman, cattleman, and hay grower as he and the family learned the ways of being ranchers.
Mike will be remembered as a wonderful husband to his wife Suzy who passed last year, as a strong, loving father to his children, and as a doting and playful Pop Pop to his grandchildren. He will be missed by numerous friends, as well as a countless number of colleagues that he mentored and helped throughout the many years of service he provided to the Steamboat community.
Mike's family is planning a memorial at the ranch (33820 US Hwy 131) for June 7th at 2:00pm. A reception will follow the memorial at the ranch. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Bud Warner Memorial Library, or simply take some extra time out of your day to pet a dog and marvel at the beauty surrounding you in the upper Yampa River valley.
