Obituary

Nils Vreeland Anderson
"Nifty"
May 28, 1947 – August 18, 2021

Nils V. Anderson was born in Franklin, New Jersey at Franklin Hospital on May 28, 1947. He grew up on Beaver Lake in New Jersey with his five brothers and sisters. Living year-round on the lake, he enjoyed boating, swimming, ice skating and sledding. During high school, he often water skied with friends on nearby Greenwood Lake. Nils graduated from Franklin High School in 1965.

Nils was a mechanic extraordinaire. It's been said he could make a 12-cylinder Jaguar sing. He owned the franchise for the Beaver Lake Sunoco and later the franchise for the Vernon Citco. He served in the Merchant Marines and tended bar locally in New Jersey. He moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in the early 1980s and continued bartending and worked in property management. Nils loved the river, and he enjoyed decades of raft trips with close friends down the spectacular Yampa River.

For the past six years, Nils was a resident of Casey's Pond Assisted Living, where he died peacefully in his sleep on August 18. Nils was preceded in death by his parents Alvin V. Anderson and Florence Spanger Anderson and his niece Kysha. He is survived by his siblings Victor W. Anderson, Judith L. Irvine, Linda A. Olmstead, Teri A. Anderson and Anders Anderson and his nieces and nephews Erik (Katelyn), Anders and Kelley and his grandnieces and grandnephews.

There will be an informal celebration of life at Iron Springs Park (1300 Lincoln Ave) on Sunday, August 22 at 4pm. All are invited.
