Omar Madison Campbell was born October 11, 1925 in Weiser, Idaho. His Father was an avid outdoorsman which he passed down to his son. They enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing together. Due to a shortage of manpower during WWII, 17 year old Omar manned a fire tower in the Payette National Forest in Idaho. In 1942 Omar was drafted out of his senior year of high school. He joined the SeaBees and spent most of his enlistment on Guam in the South Pacific. In 1946 he was discharged and entered the University of Idaho on the GI bill. Graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Range Management and a minor in Forestry. In 1951 he worked for Park Service at McKinley Park in Alaska. That January he married Virginia Quadri of Chicago, Illinois. After joining the USDA Forest Service, he was assigned to the Payette Nat'l Forest in Idaho. Later, he was sent on loan to South Carolina to work for the Atomic Energy Commission planting trees on newly acquired land. A number of years were spent as Ouray District Ranger (Colorado), in 1961 Assistant Supervisor on the Routt National Forest, and became a Dad in 1962. Several years were spent in the Regional (F.S.) office in Denver from which he retired in 1977 coming back to Steamboat to develop the Campbell subdivision. Omar is survived by his wife Ginni, his son Omar, Omar's wife Carrine and daughter Armelle, and numerous relatives. His parents and sister preceded him in death.
