Obituary

P.D. Sohn, 69, of Lake Conroe, TX and Steamboat Springs, CO, died in an accident while road biking in the Colorado mountains.  He was first and foremost a loving husband and a wise and caring father.  In addition to being a devoted family man and a remarkable friend, he was a successful and well-respected entrepreneur; a creative and witty linguist; a generous supporter of the hard-working underdog; a super-grandpa, and a lover of ice cream, cleverness and fun.

Born and raised in East Peoria, Illinois by Paul Sohn and Betty (Baer) Sohn (both deceased), P.D. developed his strong work ethic at a very young age while delivering newspapers with his brother. During his childhood, his family owned a boat, which planted the seeds for P.D. future boat dealership. It was also in Illinois where his Grandma spurred a love of driving, which much later, grew into a vintage racing car hobby.

While attending Western Illinois University, P.D. chose his wife Bonnie for life and forever, nearly 48 years ago. Together they built a family and a business.   They were a hard-working, optimistic team.  This spring, they celebrated their 70th birthdays early with a European cruise along with his brother and sister-in-law.

P.D. and Bonnie spent the majority of their years in Texas, fiercely loving all of their kids.  It was there they also built their boat dealership, Lakeshore Sports, starting from a picnic table on someone else dock!  Over the course of 35 years, P.D. shared his strong love of boating and water skiing and helped make boating fun and easy for many Texas families.

Some boat business friends introduced him to snow skiing in 1987, and he spent enough time on the slopes over the next few years to know that he wanted to enjoy a semi-retirement in Colorado.

Later, P.D. and Bonnie experienced the best of both worlds, by dividing their time between Texas and Colorado.  P.D. established a emission control for HAM radio in both homes, enjoyed a strong circle of friends in both towns, and remained active biking and on the slopes.   He would persevere at every turn, as long as he could exercise his right as an ice cream scoop owner-operator thereafter.   P.D.  magnetic delivery of funny songs and sayings and witty banter was unmatched.  He was still going. .   . a relentless force of love, fairness and fun.

Today we can celebrate a "MARVELOUS" life well-lived, and a "MARVELOUS" man, well-loved.

P.D. life and memories will forever be in the hearts of his loving wife Bonnie; his dearly-loved daughter and son-in-law Amy &(Adrian Gregorek; his beloved son, Paul Sohn, his  brother, Dennis (Cheryl) Sohn, sister, Paula (Dave) Cassel; his precious 4 grandchildren , nieces, nephews, and countless family & friends.

Celebration of life ceremonies: Steamboat Springs, Colorado at 4:30 in the Bud Werner Library  & Conroe, TX at his business, Lakeshore Sports, Sunday Aug. 6 from 2-4 p.m.
