Obituary

Ronald (Ron) N. Pearl of Steamboat Springs, Colorado passed away July 16, 2019, with his daughters by his side. Ron was born April 12, 1937, in Silver Creek, New York. He grew up in New Jersey and Tonawanda, New York.
In 1954, Ron joined the United States Naval Reserves where he served in Naval Construction Battalion as a Seabee. He was honorably discharged in 1962.
In 1955, Ron married June Sturm in Buffalo, New York. In 1958 Ron, June, and their 18-month old daughter Kim moved to Denver. They came with little more than $200 in their pocket and the few possessions that would fit in their car. Daughters Karen and Michelle came soon thereafter. Ron and June divorced in 1970.
Ron was an inventor and a master of many crafts. He could do anything. From an early age he understood the importance of having a strong work ethic and he taught his daughters to have one as well. As a teenager growing up in Tonawanda, New York, he worked construction as a bricklayer helper for Kredeman Brothers. He later went to work as an electrician for Erie Electric Company. When he moved to Denver, he worked for the Denver Water Board starting as a laborer working his way up to supervising work crews. In 1971, Ron made the decision to leave the Denver Water Board to become a jeweler and open his own store, the Black Pearl.
On April 26, 1972, Ron married the love of his life, Kathryn (Kathie) Roseth. In 1979, Ron and Kathie purchased land in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and built their dream house with their own hands. Upon completion of the house (and because they ran out of money), Ron went to work for TIC as a finish carpenter and later on as a supervisor. He worked there until he opened Whitewood Jewelers in Torian Plum. Ron also served on the Torian Plum Board of Directors.
Ron loved designing and creating jewelry, gambling, woodworking, archery, target shooting, fishing, hunting, telling tall tales, and last, but not least, his family. He left his family with a lifetime of wonderful memories and stories (some true and some not).
Ron is survived by his daughter Kim Bechard and son-in-law Terry Bechard, daughter Karen Pearl and son-in-law John Bigley, daughter Michelle Smestad and son-in-law Dennis Smestad, six grandchildren Mindi Armatas, Marie Tavenner, Michael Bechard, Dane Smestad, Davis Smestad, and Dax Smestad, three great grandchildren Hannah Tavenner, Demetria Armatas, and Sophia Armatas, sisters Sharon McNulty, Cindy Marks, and Fran Hartel, and brother Keith Pearl.

Kathryn (Kathie) F. Roseth of Steamboat Springs, Colorado passed away peacefully on August 3, 2019, with her daughters by her side. She went gently into the night to join her husband Ron who preceded her in death on July 16, 2019. Kathie was born June 26, 1944 to Marcella Adrene Roseth and Grant Oliver Roseth in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
After graduating valedictorian of her high school, Kathie graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in physical therapy with a minor in French. Kathie studied abroad attending the University of Paris. While there, she worked as a nanny and traveled extensively during her spare time.
Kathie practiced her craft as a physical therapist with Beth Israel Hospital, University of Colorado Medical Center, and as a private practitioner. Physical therapy was her passion and she passed on her knowledge by teaching classes in therapeutic exercise, assisting with P.N.P. examinations, and clinically supervising physical therapy students.
On April 26, 1972, Kathie married her soulmate Ronald Pearl. During the course of their marriage, she worked by his side building their home and running their jewelry store in Ski Time Square. Kathie never met a stranger and this made her the perfect business partner.
Kathie had a love of tai chi and reading which was demonstrated by the meticulous card catalogue she kept of every book she read. Her curiosity and pursuit of learning was contagious. Kathie couldn't wait for summer to arrive because it meant attending Strings on the Mountain concerts, Art in the Park, and watching fireworks with friends.
Her family will be forever grateful for all the family gatherings held at the house. She was a wonderful hostess and cook and if you forgot something there was no need to worry. You could count on Kathie to have not one, but two or three of whatever it was that you needed.
Kathie was compassionate, generous, and a wonderful listener. She was truly full of grace. She will be missed for her kind and gentle nature by her friends and remaining family members: daughter Kim Bechard and son-in-law Terry Bechard, daughter Karen Pearl and son-in-law John Bigley, daughter Michelle Smestad and son-in-law Dennis Smestad, six grandchildren Mindi Armatas, Marie Tavenner, Michael Bechard, Dane Smestad, Davis Smestad, and Dax Smestad, three great grandchildren Hannah Tavenner, Demetria Armatas, and Sophia Armatas, niece Brianna Taylor and husband Mark Taylor, great-niece Sarah Taylor, and nephew Gregory Basaraba. Kathie is preceded in death by her father Grant Oliver Roseth, mother Marcella Adrene Roseth, sister Jane Basaraba, brother Gary Roseth, maternal grandparents Jennie Mae Knott Eide and Amil Eide, and her paternal grandparents Anne Kvam Roseth and Olaf Roseth.

A Celebration of Life for Ronald and Kathie Pearl will held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Torian Plum, 1855 Ski Time Square Dr., Steamboat Springs, CO 80487.
