Ruby Louella Cooper, 62, passed away on October 24, 2023, at home in Calhan, Colorado. She was born on May 14, 1961, in Steamboat Springs, Routt County, Colorado. Ruby was the daughter of William Clinton Cooper and Elva Jean Rowley Cooper.
Ruby graduated from Steamboat Springs High School. She lived in Provo Utah and attended BYU for a year. After moving back to Steamboat Springs, she attended CMC and received a certificate for teaching special needs. She then completed her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education & Teaching at UNC in Greeley, Colorado in 1986. She moved to Pahrump, Nevada where she taught at J.G. Johnson Elementary in the Nye County School District for 31 years, until she retired in 2017. She then moved to Calhan, Colorado.
As a young girl and teenager Ruby was involved with 4H and FHA. For several years she organized and participated with a group of schoolteachers in the Komen Race for the Cure as the Bibbity Bobbity Boobs team. She also organized a family team for the Epilepsy Walks after the passing of her nephew. Ruby was active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and various activities as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Ruby was preceded in death by her father William Clinton Cooper, her brother Russell Dale Cooper, and nephew, Isaac Clifford Cooper. She is survived by her mother, Elva Jean Rowley Cooper, siblings, Jaci (Russell) Cooper Patton; Rita Jean (Zachary) Ostin; Rachel Sue (Joseph) Kennedy; William Clifford (Julie) Cooper; Matthew Clinton Cooper; nieces and nephews, Andrew and Alyssa Cooper; Elija (Robert), Naomi (Taylor) and Noah Ostin; Kaleb and Kaden Cooper; Ella Cooper, Kaitlyn and Dylan (Melissa) Disney; great niece and nephews, Kian Vincent, Margo Tisthammer, Hudson Disney, Will Tisthammer.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 30 at 1:00 pm at the Yampa Valley Funeral Home, 2105 Taxi Way, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with internment at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery. The viewing will be held from 12:00 pm to the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Ruby's name by calling 1-800-227-2345 or donate.cancer.org.
