Stephen Martin
Aigner
Feb 25, 1945 — Aug 27, 2026
Steamboat Springs, CO
Steve was born in the suburbs of Chicago on February 25, 1945. It was there that he met the love of his life, Peggy. They married in 1967 and moved to Ann Arbor, MI where Steve earned his Master’s and Ph.D. in Social Work and Sociology at the University of Michigan. This led them to Ames, IA where they raised their three children while Steve was a professor at Iowa State University for over 30 years, teaching social work and community organization.
Upon retiring, Steve and Peggy moved to Steamboat Springs, CO to be close to their children and grandchild. Steve quickly became an active and involved member in local community organizations such as the Community Alliance of Yampa Valley, REPS, and Exploring the Sacred Interfaith Council.
In 2020 Steve was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, which ultimately led to his passing on August 27, 2026. He is survived by his devoted wife Peggy, sons Tim (Lauri); Kirk; daughter Beth Dewey (Gordon); grandson Gabe (Kylee); and great grandson Banks who was born August 27, 2026.
Steve was laid to rest in Philadelphia during a private service. He was a good man who cared deeply for his family and community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
