Susanne (Suzy)
Holloran
Feb 2, 1944 — Jul 9, 2024
Susanne (Suzy) Holloran, a beloved member of the Steamboat community, passed away peacefully on July 9th in her home surrounded by the love of her family.
Suzy was born 1944 in Olean, New York to Sidney and Shirley Hanley. In her early years, Suzy studied abroad and worked for Pan Am Airlines where she met her first husband Myke Baar, a pilot for United Airlines. They moved to the Steamboat area in 1969 and began their life together. Tragically, Myke died in a plane crash outside of Nederland, CO in 1971. As a single mom with 3 young children, Suzy later met Mike Holloran on a blind date, and they married in 1973. Suzy and Mike began their 50 years together, buying a ranch on the south side of Steamboat where they welcomed 2 more children along the way.
Suzy was influential in the art and education communities of Steamboat. She was a talented artist who participated in many local art shows. Her work often showcased the beauty of Colorado's wildlife and wild places. Always an advocate for girls, she was a local champion of the Girls on the Run program. After her children graduated and left the house, Suzy went back to school to earn her master's degree in Art Therapy from Pratt Institute. She brought her expertise, creativity and compassion back to the valley where she then worked with Horizons, Respite House, in private practice, and in the schools of south Routt.
Suzy's greatest joy was her family! She is survived by her husband of 50 years Mike, her 5 children, and 10 grandchildren: Matt (Alison) Sage & Willow; Katie (Damon); Myke (Tiffany) Allie, Drew, Gabe, Marie; Greg (Ruth) Audrey, Iris, Greta; Becky (Neal) Tejas; and her beloved dog Bertie.
Suzy loved having the family together for holidays and hay season, or any excuse to gather on the ranch. Suzy will be remembered as a wonderful friend to many, a loving wife, an amazing mother to her children and "Gammie" to her grandchildren! Her abundance for life and love as well as her infectious laugh will be remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held for Suzy at the Bud Werner Memorial Library at 11:00 on September 21st with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Horizons (horizonsnwc.org), Jan Bishop Cancer Center (https://www.yvmcf.org/donate/) or Girls on the run(https://www.gotrwesterncolorado.org) in Suzy's remembrance, or simply by reaching out to a friend and laughing together.
