Obituary

Theodore A. “Teddy” Livingston, of Steamboat Springs, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Teddy was born February 18, 1980, in Chicago to Ted and Susan Livingston at 25 weeks gestation. At the time, he was one of the most premature babies in the world to survive and thrive—a miracle baby featured in the Chicago Tribune.

He learned to ride a bike by age five and spent hours outdoors with his older sister, Jenni, biking and playing at their lakefront home. He soon learned to snow ski and water ski, taking his first trip to Steamboat shortly thereafter. He joined Team Wilmot’s downhill race team and the Aquanuts show ski team. Teddy shared a special bond with his younger sister, Suzie; the two had a duo act in the show. He could do anything on skis—he was a talented slalom and trick skier, jumped, barefooted, and could ski 360 degrees around the boat. He spent countless hours on the water with his father and step-grandmother Debbie, often wearing a drysuit to extend the season.

Teddy attended Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Illinois, where he ran track and cross country while continuing to ski. He later attended Montana State University, where he developed a love for backcountry skiing and off-roading. After college he returned to Chicago to work in hedge funds, but soon realized he missed the mountains. He moved to Denver for a time in a corporate role, yet the pull of the mountains proved too strong. Before long he settled in Steamboat Springs, the place most special to him.

Teddy made many good friends along the way, drawn together by their shared love of the outdoors. He was known to break into song on the chairlift or do a funny dance while cooking one of his famous breakfast sandwiches. He loved every dog he met.

He is survived by his partner, Jennifer Merriett; his step-grandmother, Debbie Arnesen; his mother, Susan; his sisters Jenni (Rob) Roth and Suzie Livingston (Cody Stephenson); his niece Tate Roth; and his nephews Mac, Tucker, Gray, and Dashiell Roth. He is also survived by aunts and uncles Sally and Tony Ciraulo and Gail Livingston and Doug Tindal, and by cousins Dustin, Heather, Janet, Christopher, Claire, and Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Livingston Jr.; his grandfathers Ronald Arnesen and Ted Livingston Sr.; and his grandmothers Shirley Arnesen and Betty Ann Livingston.

A celebration of life will be held from 2–6 p.m. on October 4, 2026, at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill. All who knew and loved Ted are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to STARS (Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports). steamboat-stars.com
