Obituary

Veneta Carol Haworth, 88, passed away August 8, 2025 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado following a brief illness.  Born May 4, 1937 to Johnnie and Neva Brown in Lebanon, Nebraska, she spent all but the first three months of her life in Colorado, most of it in North Park.  She was a graduate of Jackson County High School, class of 1955.  She married Philip (Flip) Hanson in 1956.  They had four children, Lanita, Carla, Marlan and Tracy.  Following Flip's death in 1971, she lived and worked in Walden. In 1973, she married Jack Haworth.  Together, they ranched in North Park and Middle Park until Jack's death in 2023.  Her last few years were spent at Casey's Pond in Steamboat Springs where she became part of the vibrant community there.

Veneta was involved in the Community Church for many years, as well as the Assembly of God and Baptist churches.  She enjoyed the fellowship as well as the many opportunities to give back to the community.  She was 'Aunt Nita' to many of her kids' friends, neighbor kids,  as well as several generations of kids in North Park as she and Jack were Mr. and Mrs. Claus for many years.

While in Casey's Pond, she crocheted hundreds of potholders for friends, relatives, community members and anyone in need of a potholder!  Giving back to others was what brought meaning to her life, according to an interview about her crocheting projects.

Veneta is survived by her daughters, Lanita (Lonnie) Legan of Wimberley, Texas, Carla Van Valkenburg (Chris) of Walden, grandchildren, Adam (Kari) Van Valkenburg of Walden, Ethan Van Valkenburg of Walden, Mandie (Jaime Clay) Shoemaker of Walden, Kaitlyn (Brandon) Eberle of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Zane (Rebecca) Hanson of Danville, Indiana, and Jill Hanson of Chicago, Illinois, great-grandchildren Nick, Emma and Will Eberle of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Amelia and Elenor Hanson of Danville, Indiana, daughters-in-law Beverly (Tracy) Hanson and Tonya (Marlan) Hanson of Cheyenne, Wyoming, her brother Verl (Anne) Brown of Loveland, Colorado as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

Veneta was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Haworth, her parents Johnnie and Neva Brown, and sons Marlan Hanson and Tracy Hanson.
