Wayne William
Weber
Nov 29, 1944 — Oct 18, 2016
Wayne William Weber, age 71, passed away on October 18, 2016 in Steamboat Springs. He was born on November 29, 1944, in Burlington, CO to George W. and Helen M. (Brooks) Weber. He was the brother to two younger siblings, Lee Roy Weber and Anita May Spearman.
He spent his childhood growing up in Wheat Ridge, CO. He was an ornery teenager: owning a BB gun, which he was not supposed to have, resulting in a broken front tooth that he tried to pass off as a work related accident. This explains the chipped tooth in his Navy induction picture. Wayne was also enrolled in beauty school, but after 3 months became a beauty-school drop out! He enjoyed hunting and was a car fanatic at an early age. At age 17 he joined the US Navy where he served on the USS Hornet from 1962-1968.
Wayne met Marcelene Jones in beauty school and they married in 1966. Their daughter Wendy was born in 1967 while they were living in Wheat Ridge. The family moved to Steamboat Springs in November 1974. Son, George was born in Steamboat in 1975. This is where Wayne and Marcy shared their lives for 20 years before parting ways. He embraced his daughter-in-law, Amy Weber, and son-in-law, Michael Bush, as his own. Wayne felt very blessed with his pit crew of 5 grandsons, Cameron and Bryce Weber, Joshua, Dalton, and Garrett Bush. Wayne stayed in Steamboat, the place that he loved until the end of his life where he shared the last 22 years of his life with his partner, Sandy Herbert.
He was a man of many hobbies and interests during his adult life. He enjoyed car racing on multiple local racing circuits and spent most of his summer at Hayden Speedway. Boating was also a passion of his throughout his life beginning with waterskiing and ending with speed boats. His love for hunting led him to be a guide throughout many hunting seasons, often creating quality time to teach his son to hunt. He passed on his love for horses to his daughter Wendy starting with buying her a pony at age 5. Family time included horse pack trips, four wheeling, camping, fishing, and snowmobiling. During his later years he found a love for RVing and classic cars. Needless to say, he had a great love for the outdoors.
Wayne began his working career delivering the Rocky Mountain News on his bicycle. As he got older all his occupations included wheels, he just graduated from pedal power to motor power. He was an auto body man for many years, owning Weber's Auto Body and Towing with his brother Lee Roy. Wayne spent time in Alaska on a commercial fishing boat as an engineer for several years. During that time he brought his son George on board to teach him the trade and ending with assisting scientists to evaluate the Valdez Alaska oil spill. Wayne returned to Steamboat to begin his truck driving career where he drove his own truck long haul for a number of years and ending as a lowboy driver for Native Excavating. Wayne finally retired begrudgingly in April 2016.
As the generous man he was he put in many hours as a volunteer for various organizations. Wayne, being a volunteer as an EMT on the Steamboat ambulance, assisted in obtaining a grant for the local ambulance barn. He was the president of search and rescue for multiple years. The VFW held a special
place in his heart where he was an active member, volunteering countless hours in several positions for the establishment. His heart reached out people with physical disabilities through Adaptive Adventures where he would come to the lake and cook lunch for the participants for their yearly waterski camp. Transporting the seniors around town and on trips gave him much laughter and entertainment.
In summary, he made every minute count and touched a lot of lives!! May we all be so blessed to have a life so full of love and adventure.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22. 2016 at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery. There will be a reception held at the VFW following services.
